Getting into the hobby
Getting into the hobby
Hey everyone, I've sort of been lurking around these forums and the beaverbank field for a few years now and I think I finally have time this summer to get my own plane and try out the hobby. I'm looking to pick up a used trainer plane, in any condition really as long as it flys straight, and figured I'd look here first. I realize that the forums are fairly quiet these days but hopefully someone has a plane they don't fly anymore that I can purchase from them. Thanks.
Re: Getting into the hobby
Just a thought, you might want to line up an instructor before you buy. As club activity has been down lately you might be hard pressed getting help.
Just showing up some day with a plane and expecting help may leave you disappointed ...
Your instructor will be able to help you in selecting a suitable trainer, motor, radio and accessories, so when flying season does get here you will be ready to take advantage of the good weather ... it will pay off in the long run.
It can be a very enjoyable experience, with the right approach ...

Thanks for the reply Barry, wasn't expecting anyone to read it for a few days .
I will definitely be getting instructor help but I am lucky enough that my father and uncle are both experienced in the hobby and are looking to join this summer as well. If I do begin flying it will for sure be with their help at the field.

Re: Getting into the hobby
Will,
In years past the club has maintained a list of club approved instructors. These members had the skill and were willing to give their time to help new members through the flight training program. As you can appreciate there is more to it than just wiggling the sticks.
Unfortunately, I don't know who the present club instructors are but perhaps one or more will chime in to help you get started.
cheers,
